ARTIST BIO

Justin Yazzie is a native Albuquerque artist. He has an affinity for nature, structures, and all things trees. After graduating with a BA in Architecture from UNM Yazzie put his rigorous work ethic and attention to detail to work in his art. The use of computers was a major part of his schooling, yet he found that he didn't feel the same connection with the work done on them. Using pens, pencils and the like he found a strong bond with, not only the mediums, but the pieces that resulted from them. Using more tactile mediums than ever before, like scratchboard and wood burning, Yazzie is creating works of art that are uniquely his own. Many of his pieces are time consuming and detailed, but he is striving to create more and more. Yazzie takes inspiration from the natural and constructed world surrounding him and merges it with his sense of home. This combination is what he continually strives to convey as pieces of art. They are not simply images
that have no meaning or connection, they are all apart of him and the place that he loves.
